A historic brick house at the edge of the village has been home for the same gardening family for over thirty years. After service for the White House took the owners away for a few years, they have returned home and begun gardening again. I helped revitalize the landscape by replacing a hemlock hedge, adding screening along the road, reorganizing foundation plantings on the entry side of the house, and refreshing the hundred-foot long perennial border on the private side. This is a collaborative garden with a number of people pitching in, Susan Howard among them.
